Web 2.0 is Rubbish — Official!

Monday 30 January 2006 @ 11:12 pm

What is GarbageScout?

New York City’s streets are full of interesting and potentially useful things that have been thrown out.

If you see something good, snap a picture of it with your camera phone, and email it to GarbageScout. It will go up on the home page and others can go and get it.

When I was at school, people who went digging through bins were called “bin-ratchers” and it’s a stigma I’ve never been able to see past. Maybe things are different in America to how they are here in the UK though:

I know New Yorkers who have practically furnished their apartments with stuff they found on the curb.

Next time I’m thinking about some new furniture I’ll be sure to go looking for a piss-stained settee, NYC style!

The Nintendo DS Redesign Pantomime

Monday 30 January 2006 @ 12:22 am

I heard a rumour that the DS is getting a new look.

“Oh no, it isn’t!”

Oh yes, it is!

“Oh no, it isn’t!”

“Oh yes, it is!”

Oh no it– ooh, you little tinker!

So, being approximately the last person in the developed world to blog about the DS’s redesign, what fresh insight will I bring to the metaphorical table?

The Stench of Abject Failure

Sunday 29 January 2006 @ 11:57 pm

See, this is why it’s a bad idea to say things like “I’ll be aiming to post on average once a day” in your blog’s very first post, because after 5 days of posting nothing you’ll look like a shiftless waster with no chance of becoming a major league Pro Blogger.

Which is fair enough I suppose.

What a tossr!

Tuesday 24 January 2006 @ 10:44 pm

After sitting on this domain for over a month without a clue what to do with it (ooh, get me, the badass cybersquatter), I’ve decided to abandon my original idea of it being an outlet for my pent-up rage, mainly because it would’ve been a relentless barrage of expletives and that’s not much fun for anyone — well, apart from me, anyway.

So, I’ve decided to turn it into a general techy-type blog, because what the world really needs is another general techy-type blog. In fact, if there’s one thing there aren’t anywhere near enough of in the worl– well, I could go on.

As for the name? Well, it’s an amusing play on words, as the original original idea for the site was to be another Web 2.0-deflating site along the lines of Go Flock Yourself (because what the world realletc.etc.etc.); the “-r” suffix is almost ubiquitous within the Web 2.0 world, and as for “tosser” — well, if you’re not familiar with the word in its British slang context, it’s roughly analogous to the word “jerk”, with a similar derivation (”to toss” meaning “to jerk off”).

It was a lot funnier when I first thought of it; you probably had to be there, I supose. Note that no disrespect is intended towards the fine, fine folks at flickr; I merely misappropriated their logo for comedic effect. Something of a failure, granted, but there you go.

Anyway, I’ll be aiming to post on average once a day so I hope you enjoy the free flow of interesting information and content before I start plastering Adsense boxes all over.
